Grayson Perry beats Chipperfield to scoop South Bank visual art award

Grayson Perry beat David Chipperfield to win the visual art category in this year’s South Bank Sky Arts Awards。

The Turner Prize-winning potter was honoured for his installation at the British Museum, The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman.

He was shortlisted against David Hockney’s A Bigger Picture blockbuster exhibition at the Royal Academy and Chipperfield’s Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield。

The trophy was presented by Tracey Emin.

The awards, now in their 16th year, were hosted by Melvyn Bragg at the Dorchester Hotel, on Park Lane on Tuesday.

Other winners included Kate Bush for her album 50 Words For Snow which beat PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake and Adele’s 21 in the pop music category.

And Matilda won the theatre award against One Man Two Guvnors and Constellations。

Writer Michael Frayn was given an outstanding achievement award for a lifetime of work.
